Students interested in the course will be directed to the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) Certified Wedding Planner Program.

In this course we will discuss the various aspects of planning a wedding, the wedding timeline, wedding management, and wedding details.

About ProTrain:

ProTrain is committed to offering world class interactive online courses that provide training and learning support for the student in a number of ways during their experience. The ProTrain course structure has been developed to provide activities to guide students throughout the entire process of learning. Learning activities include hands-on assignments that allow students to use what they are learning to allow better transferable skills within their work environments; and collaborative assignments, like wikis and discussion groups that allow them to share what they have learned with others in the same course.

While a student learns, they are not alone. Each student will receive guidance and support from his or her assigned Training Assessment Manager (TAM) and Student Services Specialist (SSS) representative. In addition, we will offer live monthly webinars and feedback sessions for various subject categories. Throughout the entire course, students are monitored by the SSS representative using progress reporting from the ProTrain Registration System (PRS).

ProTrain will provide Students who successfully complete their online certification programs and pass their industry level certification exams the access to the new ProTrain Education-2-Employment Career Tracker system. The Career Tracker will allow our students who pass exams to load their own resumes at no additional cost, and letting industry employers find their talent through the same database.

Curriculum Developer Biography:

Laurie Gilbreath holds a Master of Arts in Education and has 15 years' experience in K-12, higher education, and continuing education. She has also worked for 10 years as a professional development facilitator and designer and an educational trainer. She has developed courses, training manuals, and educational ebooks in topics ranging from healthcare to business to administration and quality management. In addition to her educational experience, she has worked as a freelance writer and editor for 10 years. Her publications include scholarly articles, training and educational materials, web content, and fiction.

Course Outline:

Lesson 1: The Role and Scope of Wedding Consultancy

The Wedding Planner or Consultant has become an increasingly important professional for those who are planning to marry. In this lesson, we will overview the role of a wedding planner and the scope of wedding consultancy in the modern wedding.

Lesson 2: Cultures, Consumerism, and Community

In this lesson, we will discuss the various cultural traditions that can be an important part of weddings, along with their origins.  We will also explore the role that consumerism has played in the expansion of the wedding industry.  Finally, we will discuss the changing definitions and compositions of family and community and their impact on the wedding.

Lesson 3: Destination Weddings and Tourism

This chapter reviews three areas of economic development through tourism that are particularly relevant to weddings, including: 1) visiting friends and relatives travel; 2) honeymoon travel; and 3) destination weddings.

Lesson 4: Vision, Budget and Timeline

In this lesson, we will discuss creating the overall vision for a wedding and its related events.  In addition, we will discuss the wedding budget, what must be considered, and how to develop a workable budget.  Finally, we will discuss the creation of a planning timeline.

Lesson 5: The Menu

This chapter offers an overview of essential considerations pertaining to food, beverage and the wedding cake.

Lesson 6: Wedding Attire and Decor

In this lesson, we will discuss the important components of wedding attire and floral design.  We will discuss the selection and purchase of the wedding dress as well as considerations for floral design, flower selection, and the installation and removal of floral decoration.

Lesson 7: The Ceremony

The purpose of this chapter is to offer an overview of the ceremony and how its inherent parts are uniquely represented in weddings around the world. Further, examples of how different traditions can be blended for intercultural and interfaith ceremonies will be offered.

Lesson 8: Stationery, Photography, and Videography

In this lesson, we will discuss the various forms of stationery and invitations for a wedding, along with etiquette for the use of stationery and sending invitations.  In addition, we will discuss considerations for wedding photography and the process for selecting a photographer.  Finally, we will discuss wedding videography options.

Lesson 9: Music, Entertainment, and the Site

In this lesson, we will discuss various options for music and entertainment during the ceremony and reception.  In addition, we will discuss considerations for the wedding and reception sites, including layout, pricing, and rentals.

Lesson 10: Transportation and Gifts

In this lesson, we will explore transportation considerations for the ceremony and reception along with transportation costs.  In addition, we will discuss favors, gifts baskets, packaging, and gift etiquette.

Lesson 11: The Wedding day

This lesson focuses on wedding day details, including bridal preparations as well as those of the consultant. Discussion will include bride's and bridesmaids' preparation, checking weather and traffic reports, follow-ups, and emergency kits.

Lesson 12: Business, management, and Marketing

In this lesson, we will discuss the business and marketing aspects of wedding planning.  Topics will include exploring various types of businesses, the business plan, office management, and various marketing approaches.

Lesson 13: Client and Vendor Relations

The purpose of this lesson is to first discuss the elements of securing a client, initial screening, client interviews, follow-up communication, contract, compensation and evaluation.  In addition we will discuss the benefits and process of systematically getting out there and meeting your fellow wedding vendors.

Lesson 14: Stress Management and Career Enrichment

In this lesson we will discuss the stressful aspects of wedding planning as a career, how this stress can be managed, and the various options for career enrichment in wedding consultancy.
